Appreciation Day Std III & IV

In the words of William Butler Yeats, "Education is not the
filling of a pail but lighting of a fire." This was beautifully expressed
by the students of Std III & IV for the members of the management and their
teachers. The programme began with a welcome speech given by the Vice-captain
Leon Kothari . The boys received their certificates for the various
competitions held during the academic year. The Head Teacher shared her views
on 'Growing Up' and encouraged the students to enjoy their holidays fruitfully.
The hardest part of loving someone is saying goodbye. The teachers and students
bid farewell to the boys of Std IV who would in the coming academic year be a
part of the Secondary Section. The programme ended with a thank-you note by our
Captain Vikrant Pawar.

Hearty congratulations to Master
Siddharth Ghosh and Ashif Montal of Std. IX who excelled at the National Level
Science Talent Search Examination - 2016 organized by Unified Council. In
sports, Master Rudransh Mishra of Std 9 -B did the school proud by bagging
a gold medal in the 800 metres free style (swimming) at 47th Singapore National
open age group championship held at OCBC Aquatic Centre. While we congratulate
these our students for their creditable performance, we wish them success in
the challenges that lie ahead.

Learning Basics Of Scratch Software

A workshop on open source software was conducted at Don Bosco International School, Matunga, by Qubaatic Education Pvt. Ltd. Seven of our students from Stds V and VI participated in the workshop along with a few students of the host school (Don Bosco International School). Students were introduced to SCRATCH Software and were taught to create simple animated games using various tools. Students were very much enthused and overwhelmed after writing simple codes in the form of programmes for playing games, using their own creativity and imagination. Fr. Adolph and Fr. Joaquim appreciated our students’ skills and encouraged them to take to take such initiatives forward so as to make it a part of their learning activity.

Jr Kg Cultural Day

The Benjamins on the campus brought down the curtain on the cultural activities of the scholastic year with their celebration of the cultural day. The Jr KG students had their cultural day on 12th March 2016 at 10 30am. The theme chosen was "Gratitude - The memory of the heart." All the items were linked to the topic and it was heartening to see the children perform on the stage for the very first time. The program began with a welcome song and it was followed by a prayer dance to the hymn "Give thanks". The skit showcased gratitude to those who look after us, to mother nature and to our educational institution that inculcates values and instill confidence.

Field Trip Std-I

The students of Std I went on a field
trip on 11th March 2016 to Sahakari Bhandar Matunga. The children had
learnt about coins and currency in Mathematics. To make this concept more
concrete and realistic this field trip was organised.
The students were asked to bring not
more than Rs. 50 to shop for things of their choice. They picked up articles
and got a receipt for the same. On returning to school they stuck the receipt
and wrappers in their scrap book .
This gave the students the joy
and experience of shopping and handling money.

The poems were selected by the teachers much in
advance and the boys were trained to recite the poems in unison with
expression, diction, voice modulation and intonation. On the day of the
competition the students of each of these classes recited in one voice and were
judged for choice of poem, presentation, expression and discipline. Std. IIIC
& IV B were declared winners.

International French Language Olympiad results

Our French students did us proud by winning laurels in their
respective categories at this year’s Olympiad.
The toppers from Class X were- Aditya Fatehpuria (Gold), Parth Vig
(Silver) and Trevin D’Souza (Bronze). Aditya stood Ninth at the State
Level and Forty-fourth at the Olympiad Rank level.
The Class IX toppers were Pratyush Iyer (Gold), Paarth Kapasi
(Silver) and Meet Khimavat (Bronze). Pratyush won the Eleventh rank at the
State level and stood Seventy-first at the Olympiad Rank level.
The Class VIII toppers were Karthik Raamakrishna (Gold), Ethan
Sequeira (Silver) and Gautam Oberoi (Bronze). Well done, boys!

Shivansh Parekh of Class VI B won the First Prize at the Painting
competition organised by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Vastu Sagrahalaya, formerly
called The Prince Of Wales Museum.
The competition was held on the occasion of the exhibition
‘Tabiyat: Medicine and healing in India’, on the theme ‘Nature Nurtures’.

Father and Son Day

To strengthen the bond between father and son Don Bosco Primary School , Matunga, celebrated Father and Son Day on 5th March 2016.
The Head Teacher read ‘ The Making Of a Father’ by Emma Bombeck, and it was followed by the captain Master Vikrant Pawar reading ‘Walk with me Daddy’ by Helen Bush.
The fathers and their sons participated in the Tele Games and flew Kites and spun tops to their hearts' content. All present enjoyed the togetherness and the camaraderie.
The parents were grateful to the school for organizing this bonding day and making it special for them. The day ended with shouts of goodwill and a multitude of smiles.

Activity Annual Day (Std I - IV)

The Activity Annual
Day was held in the Bianchi Hall on 6th March 2016. The 'activity' students
participated with full gusto and enthusiasm. They took the audience on a
magical ride and showcased a glimpse of the activities carried out in school.
They put up presentations related to their activities: Gymnastics, Lawn tennis,
Karate, Table tennis, Skating, Art & Craft, Speech & Drama, Chess,
Dance and Robotics which kept the audience glued to their seats for over two
hours. The students of Stds. I & II had their annual day program in the
morning, while Std. III and IV performed in the evening before their parents
and guests. It was an entertaining and enjoyable day for all present. The
members of the management thanked the parents for being present in large numbers
and the activity teachers for all their hard work right through the year that
culminated in the day's excellent show.
River March for India

The students of Don Bosco High School, Matunga
participated in the Mithi River March at BKC on the 6th March 2016
organized by the River March for India foundation. The organization seeks to
rejuvenate our Rivers, free from encroachments, non-polluted green environment
and save the remaining Mangroves. The four rivers in Mumbai namely Mithi,
Oshiwara. Poisur and Dahisar are polluted to a great extent, the march aimed at
creating an awareness among the citizens about this cause.
The event began with the
flag hoisting ceremony and an address by Mr. Bajrang Agarwal, a founder of this
movement. He explained the importance of saving the Rivers of Mumbai. The march
began with the national flag at the forefront followed by the band and the
River Marchers. The River marchers covered a stretch of 5km with placards and
banners to make the citizens aware of the water pollution in the city and the
pitiful state of the River Mithi. Various schools students enthusiastically
participated in the event. The students also spoke to people on the roads and
asked them to be avoided polluting the rivers. The River March ended with a
vote of thanks by the organizers and asked the participants to be a part of
this cause. The Social service students
of class 9B and 9C along with the Nature club members attended the March. The
following teachers also accompanied the students: Mrs Lakshmi, Ms Susan, Mrs
Vandana, Mrs Barkha, Ms Marossa, Ms Sonali and Mr. Sham.

Our hockey teams shine!

Congratulations to our school u-12 A and B hockey teams that won the
first and second place respectively of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association
(MSSA) boys U-12 Olympian Walter D’Souza League at St Stanislaus Ground,
Bandra. In the finals our two school teams played against each other on 3rd
March 2016, and the 'A' team came out trumps.
On the same day, our U/10 hockey team emerged runners-up to St. Stanislaus in the MSSA
inter-school hockey tournament held at the same venue.
Well done boys... and coaches!

Field Trip Std III

Mumbai is what the Indians affectionately call -The "City
of Dreams."So the students of Std III packed their bags loaded with
mineral water and snacks and set out to explore Mumbai in all its glory. They
saw important and historical places. They made a note of the various places
they saw - The Gateway of India, Nehru Planetarium, Haji Ali Darga,
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Taraporewala Aquarium, Juhu
Chowapatty, Azad Maidan, Chatrapatti Shivaji Terminus…… This trip was
co-related with the Geography topic done in class which gave them an insight of
how wonderful the city of Mumbai is in which they live. They solved an
interesting worksheet on their return. It was a fun filled learning experience
for the students.

National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28th February each year to mark the discovery of the 'Raman Effect' by Indian physicist Sir C. V. Raman on this day in 1928. The Science Day celebrations began on 27th February, with five teams of two students each from Don Bosco, Matunga, participating in the quiz conducted at the V.J.T.I. College of Engineering. Siddarth Ghosh, Class IX and Siddarth Unny, Class VIII qualified for the next round.

The Science Day celebrations began on 27th February, with five teams of two students each from Don Bosco, Matunga, participating in the quiz conducted at the V.J.T.I. College of Engineering. Siddarth Ghosh, Class IX and Siddarth Unny, Class VIII qualified for the next round.
28th February being a Sunday, we celebrated Science Day in school on the 29th.
Students of Class VI displayed informative charts on scientific inventions and
discoveries. We had presentations in all the classes. Class VII E students
had a special presentation on scientists. The students also made and displayed
models.
