Be the change you want to see in the world - Assembly X C

Class Assembly X C- Be the change you want to see

Mrs. Ashwini Gupte

Don Bosco High School,
Matunga – Mumbai
22nd July 2015

The Mahatma's inspiring words formed the crux of the message given by the class, urging us to be proactive in tackling problems we observe around us.

The point was hit home through the portrayal of a group of school students who, on observing the pain and despair of terminally ill patients in a charity-run hospice, give their mite through newspaper drives and donations.
Rev. Fr. Bernard appreciated the collaborative efforts of the students, along with their teacher, Ms. Sheela, that made the assembly a success.

Don Bosco wanted every Salesian Institution to have the four dimensions of home, school, church and playground, and the students of VII C, through their assembly on July 21, brought out the importance of parents as the primary backbone of society, whom we are all indebted to.
With Parents' Day in the Catholic Church being celebrated on July 26, the students took up the theme of expressing gratitude towards parents. Through simple instances of daily life, we saw how children though unintentionally, do hurt their parents. It was stressed that it is not enough to love one's parents, moreover one must make a conscious effort to make them feel loved.

The evening of 22nd July 2015 was indeed delightful and motivating. The day received its flavour because 45 students from Std 5 to  std 9 attended the inaugural session of the Don Bosco English literary club for the academic year 2015-2016.

The club was privileged to have the presence of Fr. Bernard, the Principal, accompanied by the A.H.M. Mrs. Beatrice, Supervisor Mrs. Barbara, the school librarian Mrs. Flavia, English dept. Head Mrs. Perpetual and the English faculty-Mrs.Reena, Ms.sonali and Ms. Pallavi, and the club in-charge Mrs. Elizabeth and Mrs. Vandana.

It was a great sight to see the enthusiasm of the students and the joy to learn and enjoy the English language. The students were given the gist of the activities lined out for the year and the days slated for sessions every month viz. the 2nd and 4th Wednesday after school from 4pm to 5pm.

The talk by the Principal was motivating and the students were glad to know that their  Principal himself loved reading. His experience of having met authors and writers did inspire the young minds. He wished the club all the best for all their future activities. Fr. Principal also encouraged the students to take part in the Times NIE (a student edition of Times newspaper) activities and workshops.

It was indeed a fruitful evening to spend quality time with the young.

VENUE: DHARAVI NATURE PARK, DHARAVI, SION (W)

Teachers of the Mumbai south zone schools attended a seminar on July 15, at the Dharavi Nature Park themed ‘GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE.’ Two lectures, ‘River March’ by Mr. Gopal Zaveri, and ‘The Climate Reality Project’ by Mrs.Nandini Deshmukh (Ex H.O.D of Kirti College) provided information on impending global crises and the means to avert them.
The first, a documentary, gave information about the abysmal condition of rivers in Mumbai, with suggestions for students to work on projects, in order to raise awareness. You are welcomed to look up the Facebook page ‘River March For India’ for related information.
The second lecture focused on creating climate leaders who would ‘Think globally, act locally and change personally’ to reduce their carbon footprint. Do visit www.eelab.info for further information.
The programme concluded with a sharing of the success story of the Harit Sena.

An enchanting tour of North India - The Yellow House Week begins
 - Ms. Susan Philip

Don Bosco High School,
Matunga, Mumbai
20 July 2015
A journey through North India- a sneak peek into the rich and composite culture that is a harmonious blend of Hindu mythology, the riveting history of the Mughals, the British Raj and the Nawabi culture, the confluence of the Ganga and the Yamuna, the rich language that is Hindi, immortalised in the literary works of Munshi Premchand and the quotable Urdu couplets of Mirza Ghalib, rendered with the same passion... The Yellow House promises to take us on this marvellous journey through the entire week.
Day one gave us a panoramic view of the pristine beauty of Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir. The House helped us tour the expansive and breathtaking North via a video presentation, a talk and displays in each classroom.
Shall we respond to the invitation of the Yellow House and tour the North? The answer is a resounding YES. As Mirza Ghalib would say,
“Dil behlane ke liye
Yeh khayal achhe hein”
