Our athletes won many laurels at the recently concluded MSSA organized inter-school athletic meet. In shot put, Master Hrithik Swarup from Std. IX A won the second place (silver medal). Hrithik is the winner of many awards at the city and state level in shot put and discus throw. The u-14 4x100 metres relay team comprising Tejas Chavan, Sakshay Pradhan, Vatsal Bhura and Krish Jain bagged the gold medal in their category. .

The school was awarded the prestigious A.R.M. Sidiki memorial challenge shield for the highest aggregate total points scored in the intermediate division (boys). 

We congratulate the athletes and their coach for this magnificent performance!

47 C.B.D. A. Annual Scout Camp

The scout troupe of Don Bosco Matunga attended a three day camp at Boscowadi Uttan from 21st to 23rd Dec. 2015 under the able guidance of their scout Master, Mr. Manoj, and assistants Mr. Rajesh and Mr. Cinappa. There was trekking, cooking, pioneering projects, pitching of tents, history of scout movement, chart-making, games, cultural programs, visits to local places of interest and importance - all that makes scouting a much loved activity! It was a home away from home for the scouts where self-discipline and responsibility were inculcated through the enriching activities at the camp. Indeed an experience for the scouts that will long be remembered and cherished!

Cubs' Camp - Pinewood Resort, Kharjat

It was a new experience for many of the cubs attending the overnight camp at Pinewood resort, Kharjat. Students of Std. VII enrolled in the cubs' movement had a thrilling and adventurous outing on 22-23 Dec. under the watchful guidance and supervision of their teachers and leaders. They learnt knots, trekked mountains, relaxed in the pool, regaled each other at the campfire, and received prestigious scarfs that initiated them into the cubs and scouts activity. Christmas week STD I-IV

Standard I-IV celebrated Christmas week from 14th November 2015. The week began with a discussion, that brought out the meaning of Christmas. Christmas carols were played and the students sang along. They also sketched out beautiful Christmas trees and coloured it. A crib was set up by the students in every class. They also did an activity whereby they made cutouts of snowmen which were displayed in class.

            On the 18th the children were taken to the hall for the Christmas symposium program full of Christmas entertainment, the story of Christmas complete with shepherds, wise men and of course the little baby jesus. Santa visited the children much to their joy. 

             On the 19th the children attended the games stalls of the Christmas Panorama and enjoyed playing the games in a relaxed manner together with disco dancing, prizes were won to the excitement of many. 

              This was followed by a Christmas party complete with snacks and games. All wished each other a Merry Christmas before going home with promises to meet in the New Year.

The school ushered in the Christmas vacations with a grand staff Christmas party. Fresh from the successful and vibrant Christmas Panorama celebrations spanning two days, the staff - past and present - came together to share some beautiful moments during the Christmas party hosted for the staff on 21st Dec. 2015. It was a time for bonding, camaraderie, cheer and fun. Party games, exchange of gifts, carol singing, dancing and a festive lunch were but some of the bonding moments at the gathering.

The ‘Simple joys bring laughter in big measures’ themed annual Christmas Fest was celebrated with unbridled enthusiasm at Don Bosco High School, Matunga on Dec. 18 and 19. The school wore a festive look, appearing in fact, to be a 21^st century version of the oratory of our patron saint, Don Bosco, as the boys congregated all over the secondary section, working tirelessly in groups, preparing for the various activities. The spirit of Christmas brings forth the spirit of giving, of sharing with the less fortunate, and our students also worked hard to be of service to others, by raising proceeds in aid of a worthy cause.

The Christmas festivities included a plethora of team building exercises, as all the events involved grouping of students house-wise, across classes V to X. Making the stars, Christmas trees and cribs, as also the carol singing ensured a truly Christmassy ambience. A Christmas skit giving the message of love and reaching out to those in need sent out the real meaning of Christmas, as did the message given by Rev. Fr. Rector. The mega entertainment involved the vibrant and lively dance contests- a Pantomime, ‘Festive dance’, ‘All the right moves’ and ‘Dancercize’, to name a few. ‘Bosco Goes Live’ was the platform for all budding musicians to flaunt their talent. The cherry on the cake, the highly anticipated ‘Bosco King’ competition was followed by the arrival of the most beloved of all young children, Santa Claus himself!

The Christmas spirit being truly in the air, the school was almost magically transformed into a place of joy, of love and bonding, of sharing and caring, a place to forget all worries and renew our strength, everything that Christmas is all about!

SAY IT WITH CARDS, CRIBS, STARS AND CHRISTMAS TREES!

What is Christmas without a Christmas tree, a crib, a star or a card? Simple reminders that Christmas joy and cheer are incomplete without them. The secondary section of our school was agog with card, crib, star and Christmas tree competitions on 16th Dec afternoon. The students were at their creative best decorating the stars, lending a deft touch to a crib, preparing Christmas cards for their parents, or giving a festive look to the Christmas tree. The merry atmosphere irrespective of the competition filled the campus, and the sight was indeed a joy to behold for the judges, parents and well-wishers alike. 

School u-12 football team clinch third consecutive MSSA title:

Our football team was at it again - this time around it was the turn of our u-12 A team. The boys scored a convincing 2-0 victory over rivals Bombay Scottish in the finals at Azad Maidan on 16th December 2015, thus clinching the MSSA title for the third consecutive year. The skillful team outsmarted the opponents and were deserving victors of the game. Coach Naresh Solanki was quoted in MIDDAY: "Though the boys played very well today, I thought we would have scored a couple of more goals and have won by a bigger margin. But it was nice to see the boys hold possession and dominate the proceedings. The boys have worked very hard and I'm glad we were able to register this hat-trick of titles." 

Keith Fernandes and Harsh Naik were the scorers in the final. Keith went on to be the highest scorer of the tournament with seven goals.

Well done boys and coaches! A deserved victory for all your hard work!

Celebrating Cardinal's birthday!

Don Boso High School, Matunga was offered the privilege to animate and sing at the mass on 17th December celebrating Cardinal Oswald Gracias' birthday. Although the birthday of the Cardinal falls on 24th December

, it is a practice for the ABE (Archdiocesan Board of Education, Mumbai) to have this celebration for the Cardinal by the students a week prior to Christmas. 

At the mass, the school choir was amazing, the animation of the mass meaningful, and the address read by the AHM, Ms. Beatrice was a fitting tribute to His Eminence for his contribution to the Church and society. The entire contingent of Don Bosco Matunga came in for high praise from the Cardinal himself, Fr. George Athaide (ABE secretary) and the participants at the liturgy. 

We wish His Eminence long life, good health and happiness.

Congratulations to Aryan Parkar of Std. 9 C and Rudransh Mishra of Std. 9 B for winning accolades in the field of sport.

In the inter-school gymnastics (MSSA) Aryan won a gold medal in parallel bar and 2 silver medals in floor exercise & vaulting horse. Overall he helped our school win the first place in gymnastics.

In the inter-school swimming competition (MSSA) held at Kamgar pool - Elphinston, Rudransh won a gold medal in 100 metres breast stroke, Silver in 100 metres free style and a bronze medal in 100 metres butterfly.

Master Hrithik Rajesh Swarup won 3rd place bronze medal in India Master's Athletic Meet held on 10th December. Atharva Gatkar stood 3rd in 100 metres for boys under 16, while our under 16 4x100 metres relay team comprising Akash Patki, Sakshay Pradhan, Rahul Amin and Atharva Ghatkar stood 1st thus winning the gold medal.

Rudransh Mishra of 9B won a silver in the100 metres free style swimming competition held at YMCA. (with a timing of 1.01).

Eat Healthy Day

 Std. III observed Eat Healthy Day to supplement their lessons in E.V.S. and English on Our Need for Food and Junk Food. The teachers along with the students suitably decorated the classrooms with charts, pictures and quotes. Through discussion, power point presentation and videos the teachers elicited from the students the importance of healthy food and why they need to avoid junk food. They also learnt the importance of table manners and healthy food habits. Keeping in mind that the habit of eating nutritional snacks is a must and children must develop this habit from their young age the teachers discussed simple recipes with them in class. The students solved work-sheets which consisted of puzzles, drawing and colouring activities. They enjoyed working in groups to put up information collected on the display boards of their classes. 

Jr KG singing competition

The Jr KG had their singing competition  on the 5th of December  15 during school hours. The children all went in to  an elimination  round and the selected boys were all geared up to perform in front of their  friends. The boys were judged on pitch , clarity  and memory. The classes saw children singing songs like Heal the world, Bimbo, You are my sunshine  ect. It was an enjoyable day for all those present.  The competition  ended with gifts for the winners.

Bosco Sports Fest 2015 a grand success

 ‘Playing Fields + The Dons = Untold Joy’ proclaimed the backdrop with pride, and two days of unbridled excitement and superior sportsmanship it was, as Don Bosco, Matunga witnessed their heart thumping, mega adrenaline rush annual extravaganza.

Basketball, football, cricket, rink football, hand tennis, kabaddi, volleyball, chess, carom, table tennis, fun games, cycling, tug-o’-war, shot put, discus throw, march past, relays and the numerous races were all enjoyed with great fervour, and more importantly, with the true spirit of sportsmanship.

Day One saw the entire secondary section of the school participating in an event of their choice, in order to fetch points for their Houses. The secondary school quadrangle was a beehive of activity as students either played their respective events or cheered their House mates on.

Day two saw the boys on the field for all the track events. Mr. Edgar Mascarenhas Sr., hockey player of international repute graced the occasion as the chief guest. A keen sportsman himself, Mr. Mascarenhas urged the students to avail of the opportunities offered by the one school in Mumbai with the best sports infrastructure and the biggest grounds to boast of.

The two days of sporting activity resulted in the Red House being the overall winners, but as every true Boscoite will be quick to affirm, the Bosco Sports Fest resulted mainly in the glory of sports, thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Congratulations!

Master Shivam Sandeep Kadam of Std VI secured the second place in the U-17 category in the State inter-school Soft tennis  tournament held in Aurangabad. He is chosen to represent Maharashtra for inter-school Soft Tennis Nationals to be held at Dewas, Madhya Pradesh from 17 to 21 Dec. 2015. Besides captaining our school for the district, Shivam is the youngest player to be selected in state team.

The school is proud of his achievement and wish him all the best in the prestigious tournament ahead!

2nd December was the day set aside for rest and relaxation as the boys of the Primary section went on their annual picnic. Classes I and II went to Tiku –ji-ni Wadi and Classes  III and IV went to Great Escape

Fun and frolic in the sun and in the water, a large number of amusement park rides and the good company of friends and teachers spelt day-long entertainment and bonding. The children thoroughly enjoyed a dance session to the latest Bollywood tunes. The students of Std I and II visited the Dinosaur World followed by the animal kingdom and Tikku Aquarium where they were enthralled viewing a variety of fish. It was an enjoyable and fun filled day both for the students and teachers.

Standard I – IV, celebrated Children’s Day on 4th November 2015. The class rooms were well decorated by the parents, helped by their teachers.

The day began with a prayer for the children followed by the teachers singing & dancing for the students. The mummies too did their part by dancing for the boys.

A magic show followed this, which was enjoyed by the kids. The students went back to class and discussed the importance of the day, remembering Chacha Nehru our first Prime Minister, who loved children. The children then had their snacks and received sweets on this special day before they went home.

Readathon Day I -IV

The entire primary section of the school, from classes I to IV celebrated Readathon Day on the 1st of December. The classrooms and corridors were suitably decorated for the day  The day was set aside to initiate our students into the practice of reading, a habit both parents and teachers strive to inculcate in  students. The students brought along an interesting story book of their choice and were encouraged by their teachers to read the same in class as part of devoted reading time followed by report writing where they described what they had read.  The teachers stressed the importance of reading in order to help the students increase their vocabulary and self –confidence to express themselves. They viewed a power point presentation on famous and authentic writers and they enjoyed the day by writing a story book of their own which indeed made them feel proud about themselves.

A day filled with thanksgiving prayers, fun and festivity as we expressed gratitude to the Almighty for both, the members of our Management and for the children He has entrusted to our care. The teachers held the day’s special audience in thrall as we were witness to some rarely seen facets of their personalities, that of graceful dancers, melodious singers and hilarious entertainers. Our tiny tots too, not to be left behind, put up an entertaining dance. This was our way of say a big ‘Thank You’ to our dear Management for all the hard work they put in to ensure that our school continues to be one of its kind. ‘May God bless them with good health to carry on this great task entrusted to them’ is our prayer. And to our dear children, we reiterate that God made you in His image, we thank you for all that you are to us and we pray for God’s choicest blessings on you always.

SRKG Field Trip

The children of the SR KG were transported in to another world on their field trip today. They went to Kangaroo Kids  at Wadala who were hoisting  their mega event on transport .

The place was transformed into the four main modes of transport with models , charts, live demo equipment and information. The children had an interactive session in small groups with the teachers there. The children were also asked questions by the teachers which they answered.  The hard work done  by the teachers was evident .

Taking the children on this field trip was very informative .

It was indeed a field trip with a difference
