Marathi Divas Festivities at Don Bosco, Matunga

Don Bosco High School,
Matunga, Mumbai
29 February, 2016

The birth anniversary of the reknowned Marathi poet V. V. Shirwadkar, fondly called 'Kusumagraj' is celebrated in the state of Maharashtra to encourage young students to cultivate love and respect for Marathi, the state language. We too were a part of the celebrations at Don Bosco's on February 27, as the Marathi department organized a number of interesting activities to take us through their special day.
Through her morning talk, Mrs. Hemangi Sawant, H.O.D., enlightened us about the rich language and culture. A delightful choral recitation by students from classes V to VII came next, after which the Principal, Rev. Fr. Bernard Fernandes surprised everyone by speaking to us in impeccable Marathi about Kusumagraj. The afternoon saw an inter school elocution competition being conducted in the school, with participants of standards VIII and IX from 19 different schools of the F/N ward. We enjoyed listening to them as they recited poems of Kusumagraj and Padgaonkar. Rev. Fr. Rector and Rev. Fr. Principal then declared the winners and certificates were awarded to the winners.
The results were as follows- First place winner- Shubham Dhuri from D.P.Y.A. High School, Second place winner- Prachi Garate from Sitaram Prakash High School, Third place winner- Komal More from C.G.S.E. school and the Fourth place winner- Akanksha Chavan from Shiv Shikshan School.
Congratulations to all the participants and a 'Well Done' indeed to the Marathi department!

The class presented a street play as part of their assembly in order to highlight the appalling crime of child trafficking and the ill-treatment meted out to vulnerable children. The class made it clear that that it is not only young girls, but also boys who are lured by unscrupulous people for nefarious schemes such as child labour, begging on the streets, organ trafficking and sexual exploitation.
The students enhanced their street play by putting up a meaningful dance highlighting the same grave problem.

 26 February, 2016

Don Bosco, Matunga’s N.C.C., R.S.P., Scout and Cub troops led the way as they urged us to follow their example in developing team spirit and the spirit of adventure, while selflessly serving the nation. Their annual day on February 26 exhibited what the boys in uniform are all about.
The N.C.C. cadets displayed ship and gun models, informative charts on the Indian Navy, flags indicating ship to ship communication symbols. They also gave us valuable information on the N.C.C. as a door opener to the armed forces.
The R.S.P. boys explained the different signs and symbols used to control road traffic and demonstrated the use of the same through a model wherein they showcased traffic scenarios.
The Scouts displayed a makeshift watchtower and bridge, besides initiating us into the origin and accomplishments of the scouting movement.
The Scouts’ younger brothers, the Cubs, displayed charts and demonstrated the different knots with information about the same in all the classes of standard V, VI and VII.
The fascinating array on display was an apt testament to their respective mottoes- “Unity and Discipline”, “We Live To Serve” and “Be Prepared”.

Don Bosco High School,
Matunga, Mumbai,
17 February, 2016
Don Bosco High School, Matunga continued to add to its collection of awards - this time around it was for being one of the top ranking schools in India in the 3rd digitalLEARNING School Ranking Survey 2015.
In a cut-throat competition and emerging educational market of India, performers of various hues are differentiating themselves in a number ways, of which ranking remains a dominant facet. Having being into the segment of India’s Education System for quite a while, digitalLEARNING took the quest to rank the Best Schools of the country. A set of 73 eduDESTINATIONS were identified from across the country, segmented into 5 geographical zones. A select list of schools was shortlisted from these eduDESTINATIONS, based on secondary editorial research and ranking nominations.
These schools have been ranked within their very educational ecosystems so as to provide a level playing field to all contenders. The concept of multiplicity of ranking has been introduced with the explicit realisation that not every school can be at the same level of excellence on every single parameter.
The ranking was based on a set of five perception-based parameters:
i. Goodwill, Legacy & Reputation (4th rank in East Mumbai)
ii. Academic Ecosystem & Outcomes; (4th rank in East Mumbai)
iii. Future Ready Academic Infrastructure;(3rd rank in East Mumbai)
iv. Enrichment of Learning Experience (3rd rank in East Mumbai)
v. Career Advancement. (2nd rank in East Mumbai)
In addition, the Online Presence (4th rank) and Social Footprints (4th rank) of these schools are computed, which reveal a lot about the progressiveness of the brand concerned.

We can strive to be only better!

The Secretary of the Archdiocesan Board Of Education, Rev. Fr. George Athaide graced the occasion as our chief guest. On behalf of Rev. Fr. Bento D’Souza, Rev. Fr. Roy Noronha graciously accepted the proceeds of our care and share Christmas Panorama, towards the cause of empowering people in the Marathwada region.
The musical, the highlight of the evenings, went a long way towards exhibiting the talent of our youngsters, a testimony to our constant efforts to encourage and hone talent in both academics as well as co curricular activities, to polish to a fine brilliance all our young diamonds in the rough, as per the guiding principles of our Father and Founder, St. John Bosco.
