A grand installation ceremony of our leaders

Leading, in order to create leaders: Investiture Ceremony of the Student Council 2015-16
-Ms. Ashwini Gupte

Don Bosco High School,
Matunga, Mumbai,
JULY 6, 2015

The office bearers of the Student Council of Don Bosco High School, Matunga, were invested with the symbols of leadership on the day we celebrate the Feast of St. Dominic Savio. The solemn occasion, marked as it was by a meaningful skit portraying not only the sanctity, but also the cheerful attitude, self-discipline, courage and wisdom of the teenage saint, was aimed at reminding the leaders of their duty towards their motherland, their school and their fellow students, not as authoritative figures but as young men entrusted with the responsibility of empowering their peers. The leaders donned their symbols of authority with pride and pledged to consider the leadership bestowed on them as an opportunity for service.

Rev. Fr. Wilfred D’Souza, Rector, urged the newly installed leaders to recognise the day as a defining moment to uphold the values that Don Bosco High School stands for and as a collaborative effort to raise the school to greater heights. Rev. Fr. Rector thanked the students for accepting the office, especially in the year marking the bicentenary of the birth of our Patron Saint Don Bosco, reminding the leaders that the institution was a testimony to the success of that great visionary’s system of education. ‘Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality,’ the backdrop read, and Rev. Fr. Wilfred wished the office bearers success in enhancing their capacity for leadership, in making their vision grow and in translating that vision into reality.

Rev. Fr. Bernard Fernandes, our Principal, lauded the School Captain, Mohnish Shah for reminding his fellow council members not to be authoritative figures, but instead, to empower others. Rev. Fr. Bernard reiterated that the school endeavours to encourage maximum student participation in the decision making process for the benefit of the students themselves, and urged the students to stand for their values.

On behalf of the Management, teachers and the student body, we wish the members of the student council a fruitful and enriching term in their respective offices.
