River March for India

The students of Don Bosco High School, Matunga participated in the Mithi River March at BKC on the 6th March 2016 organized by the River March for India foundation. The organization seeks to rejuvenate our Rivers, free from encroachments, non-polluted green environment and save the remaining Mangroves. The four rivers in Mumbai namely Mithi, Oshiwara. Poisur and Dahisar are polluted to a great extent, the march aimed at creating an awareness among the citizens about this cause.
The event began with the flag hoisting ceremony and an address by Mr. Bajrang Agarwal, a founder of this movement. He explained the importance of saving the Rivers of Mumbai. The march began with the national flag at the forefront followed by the band and the River Marchers. The River marchers covered a stretch of 5km with placards and banners to make the citizens aware of the water pollution in the city and the pitiful state of the River Mithi. Various schools students enthusiastically participated in the event. The students also spoke to people on the roads and asked them to be avoided polluting the rivers. The River March ended with a vote of thanks by the organizers and asked the participants to be a part of this cause. The Social service students of class 9B and 9C along with the Nature club members attended the March. The following teachers also accompanied the students: Mrs Lakshmi, Ms Susan, Mrs Vandana, Mrs Barkha, Ms Marossa, Ms Sonali and Mr. Sham.
