The first Executive Committee Meeting of the P.T.A. or the
Salesian Educative Community comprising the Management, staff and parent
representatives of Don Bosco Primary School, Matunga was held in the school
premises on July 11, 2015. Mr. Vivek Bhattacharya, Class Representative Std. I
A was elected Vice President and Mr. Navin Tonape, Class representative Std. IV
D, the Joint Secretary.
Miss Alareen Fernandes, class teacher Std. IV C and Mrs. Colleen Azavedo, class
teacher Std. II B became the Secretary and Joint Secretary from the teachers’
representatives.
The Head Teacher of the Primary section, Mrs. Winifred Fernandes
informed the parents about the continuous comprehensive evaluation system being
followed in the school as per BMC norms, and that from the academic year
2016-17, Std. V and VIII would appear for the Middle School Scholarship Exam
conducted by the Government. The current Std IV batch would hence, not appear
for the same.
The Head Teacher spoke about field trips correlated with the
syllabus as being out of the classroom learning experiences, and Cultural Days
as being a platform for all students to gain stage confidence, crediting the
efforts of the teachers. Parents were informed about special activities for the
students having been started during school hours, enrolment optional, which
specially appointed teachers, trainers and coaches have been conducting.
The Principal, Rev. Fr. Bernard Fernandes, presented the
background of the ‘Design for Change’ social outreach program, an initiative of
Mrs. Kiran Sethi of The Riverside School in Gujarat, which the school has
undertaken for this academic year. Std. III to X would be involved with the
same, in collaboration with GreenLine and the Social Service Club of the
school.
Fr. Bernard appealed to the parents to be resourceful,
especially in terms of pooling talent during the Christmas Panorama and the
Annual Thanksgiving Day.
Fr. Bernard also revealed the major event scheduled for the year
2016-2017, the seventy-fifth year of the founding of Don Bosco, Matunga, ideas
for which were invited. Suggestions given by the Parent representatives were
noted and queries duly answered.
